Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

Gold-Flecked Steaks

Read here about the Silicon Valley restaurant where Google and Apple executives eat gold-flecked steaks. Dinner costs at minimum $395 a head, but it averages between $500 and $600 with beverages and tax. Earlier this year, I commented here that Silicon Valley and Wall Street were two places where one could easily sell their soul for money. I might add Washington D.C. as a place where many sell their soul for illusory power. Those three cities perhaps best typify why American culture is disintegrating - a voracious greed for money and power. I commented here how bizarre things can get when one jettisons truth and creates their own fantasy world. Money, success, power, prestige and intellectualism can't buy sanity ... or happiness. Those who chase money and power are lusting after mere baubles and are on a runaway train (i.e., see here) that will ultimately destroy them.

An all-consuming lust for money and/or power destroys everything of real value in one's life- i.e., marriages, family, health and above all a living relationship with God. In fact, that kind of avarice is the symptom of a much deeper-rooted problem, a spiritual cancer that is eating us away from the inside out. There is only One who can set us free.

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money. (Matt 6:24-25, ESV)

For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? (Mark 8:36)
