Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

The War On Reality

A wise man's heart inclines him to the right, but a fool's heart to the left (Ecc 10:2, ESV)

Tim Daughtry hit the bullseye with his editorial here entitled "Gaslighting and the Left’s War on Reality".

The word gaslighting has been popularized in psychology to describe a form of mental and emotional abuse in which a domineering person denies and contradicts the memories and perceptions of an intended victim until the victim begins to doubt his or her perception of reality. The word comes from the 1944 mystery film Gaslight, in which a woman’s husband tries to convince her that she is losing her mind and that the things she is experiencing – such as the gaslights in the house flickering and dimming – are not real. Only when an inspector from Scotland Yard also notices the gaslights flickering does she realize that she is not losing her mind and that her husband has a devious agenda.

In politics, the word “gaslighting” is increasingly used to describe the left’s efforts to push a false view of reality and to convince mainstream Americans that their common-sense views are somehow extreme. For example, on a recent edition of Varney & Co., Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said the Obama administration’s portrayal of Israel as our enemy and Iran as nothing to worry about could be described as “gaslighting.” Bill Whittle’s popular video Gaslighting exposed the left’s use of the gaslighting tactic to spread false information about issues such as Benghazi and Obamacare.

... Note that gaslighting is a far more insidious tactic than political spin. Spin merely attempts to shift the interpretation of a real situation by presenting it in a different light. Gaslighting presents a completely false alternative to reality and is intended to erode the confidence of the target in his or her own perception.

..Because it presents a false picture of reality, two elements are especially important for gaslighting to succeed. First, those doing the gaslighting must display confidence and audacity in pushing their view of reality and must persevere boldly in the face of evidence that contradicts their claim. Second, the target must be psychologically isolated and denied validation by others who see the same reality. The left’s dominance in the cultural institutions of education, news, and entertainment has given them both elements.

In the never-ending descent into Wonderland, doctors in the U.K. have been told to refer to expectant mothers as “pregnant people” so as not to offend transgender people, in official guidelines issued by the British Medical Association (BMA). The controversial advice appears in a 14-page booklet on “inclusive language in the workplace” which also rules that the terms ‘biologically male’ and ‘biologically female’ are problematic, and instructs doctors to instead say that the individual was ‘assigned’ male or female at birth. See here.

The denial of the biological reality of unchangeable natural-born gender identity is ultimately a fierce war on traditonal marriage between one man and one woman.

The American Academy of Pediatrics, one of many formerly credible professional associations compromised by political correctness and junk science, has now announced that children no longer benefit from a mother and a father in the household. Any two adults will do. Mothers and fathers provide no unique influence. This departure from reality is a declaration of war on the family. Sundered by no-fault divorce and co-habitation, marriage as a “genderless” institution loses even more legitimacy in the eyes of the culture; it is perceived as a negligible contribution to stability, prosperity and self-sufficiency. As nuclear families fail, government grows to pick up the pieces – and to enforce a new false reality.

The denial of life in the womb is a vicious war on the helpless unborn.

The denial of the twisted theological root and coresponding bad fruit of Islam in conjunction with a distorted and perverse portrayal of Judaism and the nation of Israel is a violent war on the seed of Christianity.

The increasing apostasy in many quarters of the church is a futile war on truth itself and against Truth Himself.

Tim Daughtry is absolutely correct. And what's happening in the culure is a microcosm of a cosmic war in the spiritual realm that has been underway since Eden. As the enemy's time grows shorter, he becomes ever more desperate - as reflected in the increasing loss of reality by much of the culture. Those that succumb to the deception and foolishly choose to jettison their anchor of truth, seal their fate as casualties of the war on reality.
