Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

"People are not only unable to find out about the truth but also become unable even to search for the truth"

In Oct 2015, Nick Short warned here that the American public was "not only unable to find out about the truth but also become unable even to search for the truth".

Pieper was describing a world in which reality has given way to narratives as societies can no longer discern the difference between what is real and what is fake. Non-stop distractions are deliberately used by those in power as instruments of policy for the purpose of preventing people from paying attention to reality. Propaganda is used by those in power to manipulate language, thought, and opinion in a way that causes the progression from thought to action artificially. When the public is reduced to a state where people no longer care about the truth and are unaware of what that truth even is, propaganda takes hold and shows them what to do. The world Pieper was describing is the world that we live in today as more and more Americans are subjected to a bombardment of propaganda that is based on the ever changing news cycle that predominates our lives.

Ultimately, he warned that,

.... propaganda is used by both the media and the current administration in order to further an agenda that is not rooted in reality.

Of course, it's not just the "current administration" that seeks to veil truth. It's characteristic of a fallen world drifting deeper and deeper into apostasy. As C.S. Lewsi, wrote, wise people will immunize themselves against the "great cataract of nonsense that pours from the press and the microphone of [their] own age". And just how can one do that? Only by vaccinating themselves with the absolute truth of Scripture.

Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance (Prov 1:5)
