Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

You Were Born For Such A Time As This

A fascinating passage is recorded in the Old Testament book of Esther in chapter 4. (The book is remarkable in that it is only book in the entire Bible with no explicit reference to God, prayer, worship or any kind of overt religious activity - yet, God is implicitly seen orchestrating all the events.) Mordecai sends word through emissaries to Esther (the Queen of Persia) asking her to intercede with the King on behalf of the Jews who are threatened with destruction. Esther is understandably reluctant because it potentially means her execution. Mordecai responds with two points:
  1. If Esther refuses, someone else will arise to the opportunity (i.e., God will use someone else).
  2. This opportunity may be the very reason that Esther has become Queen. It might literally be the moment she was born for.
An interesting question is the one that asks, if possible, when and where in recorded history would you have lived your life? My answer might surprise some, for my reply would be "when and where I am living right now because that is where God in His sovereign wisdom chose to place me in history."

Literally - if God is truly sovereign - I was born for this time. And so is every other believer alive today. That truth changes everything. Threatening circumstances become glorious opportunities.
