Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

The Making Of A Myth

There is a reason that most idealists tend to be young (and naïve), while realists tend to be older (and wiser, having witnessed first hand the devastating effects of sin in this fallen world.) Evil is real.

Kayla Mueller was kidnapped by ISIS while illegally in Syria and made a sex slave. She was tragically killed in an airstrike before her family was able to free her for the ransom demanded by ISIS. While she is commonly presented by the media as a humanitarian "aid worker", there is more to her story. In fact, she was far more of an "activist" than a true aid worker. She was illegally in Syria and unexpectedly showed up at a hospital operated by Doctors Without Borders - not to provide "aid", but to accompany her Syrian boyfriend who had been contracted to perform IT repairs at the hospital. The hospital immediately made arrangements to return her to Turkey the next day, but she was kidnapped at the bus station.
I have no doubt that Kayla genuinely was a compassionate person and wanted to help make the world a better place. But Kayla was the victim of a progressive liberal worldview that denied the reality of evil ... and paid a heavy price for her naivete'. She was involved with the radical group "International Solidarity Movement" [ISM] which supports terrorism and calls for the destruction of the state of Israel. ISM members are part of the political culture that portrays terrorism as the result of U.S. foreign policy and/or of poverty caused by capitalism. This political culture is impervious to the overwhelming evidence that terrorism is spawned by ideology and Islam, not by poverty. It is a culture that leads young Americans like Kayla, taught by Movement rhetoric to blame their own country for Islamist terrorism, to attempt to save the world by going to the aid of the people that American power is oppressing. America and Israel are portrayed as the world's most oppressive regimes.

Ultimately, Mueller was the tragic victim of an idealistic, faulty worldview. Her efforts led her to Syria, where ISIS took her hostage and sold her to a militant commander for a sex-slave war trophy. She paid a heavy price for her worldview.
