Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

“Truth is so obscured nowadays, and lies so well established, that unless we love the truth we shall never recognize it." Blaise Pascal

Choices & Truth

Choices  & Truth
Life was simple when I was growing up.  There were eight colors in the crayon box.  Now there are 64 or more and they are called markers.  With the additional crayons come more choices. Additional colors; subtle differences; shades and blends can make a beautiful picture.  But I struggle when I don’t know the names of the colors or see much difference between the shades.
Most of life has more choices now compared to the past. Each of us have an opinion on whether that is good or isn’t so good.
Some of the new choices confuse me:
·         Marriage was one man with one woman NOW there are other options
·         Sex was male or female NOW there are other choices
·         Women and children had special status in war/combat NOW not so much
Are some things in life exempt from choices and options?  Should some things be exempt from choices and options?  I think yes.  Are there or should there be some certainty in life?  I want to believe there is some certainty some absolutes in life. Is there truth in culture or do culture and people like us define our own truth?
One dictionary definition of truth: a verified or indisputable fact, proposition, principle, like: mathematical truths.
Choices, additional options may change the way we understand truth but does a choice even to disregard truth negate the truth? If we are talking about gravity then the answer is simple.  Gravity is a certainty whether one chooses to accept it or not. But if the truth is stated by God and we chose to disregard or ignore it is the result the same as walking off a 3 story roof? The result of ignoring God’s truth may not be as immediate as the fall from 30 feet but the impact is eternal because God is eternal.
Life is not as simple as it once was. We have more choices and more options which looks like more freedom. More choices make it more difficult to select a best choice.  An important question that we often fail to ask is where the additional options and choices come from?
Now I return to my simple Biblical understanding of the world.
·         The world is in the power of evil (Gal 1:4).
·         Fallen mankind cannot please God (Col 1:21).
·         God does not change.
Additional choices and options are probably not from God.  We should follow the example of the Berea church and examine new ideas with the scripture (Acts 17:11).
We don’t choose truth but we choose God and follow truth.
                                                                                                          2 Cor 4:18
