Why Akathleptos?

Why Akathleptos? Because it means Uncontainable. God is infinite. Hence, the whole universe cannot contain Him. The term also refers to the incomprehensibility of God. No man can know everything about God. We can know Him personally but not exhaustively, not even in Heaven.

Why Patmos? Because the church is increasingly marginalized and exiled from the culture.

Why Pen-Names? So the focus is on the words and not who wrote them. We prefer to let what we say stand on its own merit. There is precedent in church history for this - i.e., the elusive identity of Ambrosiaster who wrote in the 4th century A.D.

An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last

Winston Churchill (who warned what was coming with the rising Nazi Third Reich when most of his contemporaries proclaimed peace) famously said, "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."

Similarly, Walid Shoebat warns here that progressive liberals are misreading the jihadists, "They think that by overcompensating and throwing in with the favorites against infidel and kuffar underdogs, they will be safer."

When the West capitulates to Islam in the fantasy they can both peacefully co-exist, they misunderstand Islam and its' determination to implement sharia worldwide. Appeasement becomes the catalyst for the downfall of the West.

Similarly, when the church fails to take a stand against those who would destroy it with false doctrine and apostate teaching and instead seeks appeasement, the die is cast. But sometimes, it takes only a single faithful individual to make an effective bulwark.

Athanasius lived in the 4th century AD when the blood of the Church’s earliest martyrs was still fresh in the memories of Christians—and the intensity of his faith was a tribute to those who had suffered and died rather than recant the Apostolic Faith. He did not suffer fools; indeed his disposition recorded by history challenges our common perception of holiness as being appeasing, nice and well-mannered. Athanasius was more than willing to fight if provoked, and when the Church was threatened he did not just speak up, he shouted.

The great issue that was dividing the Church at the time was Arianism, a heresy that purported that the Lord Jesus was less than God— not, as our creed professes, “consubstantial with the Father, God from God and Light from Light,” but instead, Christ was akin to something like the demigods of pagan mythology.

Athanasius would have none of this and steadfastly refused to appease his opponents.

He stubbornly insisted that it is integral to the Christianity that God in Christ accepted a human nature, while at the same time in no way compromising His divine nature. This revelation is called the Incarnation, and it is the central claim of the Gospel. God has in Christ assumed our flesh and shared with us the full experience of what it means to be human, even knowing for Himself suffering and death.

The implications of this are profound; Athanasius insisted that because of what God had accomplished in Christ, “that which is made of earth can now pass through the gates of heaven.” In other words, God in Christ is the singular instance in which two natures, human and divine, co-inhere in one divine person. Because God has done this, he has effected for us, in Christ, a “marvelous exchange”- accepting a human nature so that humanity could share in his divine nature.

Athanasius knew that a denial of the Incarnation would ultimately result in a wholesale repudiation of the totality of the Church’s Faith, indeed in a refusal of the whole Christian practice of life, which flows from and returns us to the densely textured revelation of God become man in Christ. At times, his uncompromising insistence that the integrity of the Apostolic Faith regarding the Incarnation be maintained resulted in much personal suffering and scorn, and it seemed that Athanasius was alone and “contra mundi" (against the world).”

But Athanasius was unyielding.

If faith in the Incarnation was lost, not only would the Church fall, but the great gift of participation in the divine life that Christ offered to humanity could not be appreciated or received. The stakes were high.

The witness Athanasius clarifies just how much theology matters. Contrary to what many now proclaim, theology is of utmost importance. Get it wrong and everything is lost. The great truths of Christianity cannot be taken lightly or dismissed as abstractions that are best left to experts. Every Christian has a responsibility as a disciple to know the Church’s teachings at a measure of depth, or the mission that Christ imparts to us is imperiled. A disciple cannot be content with a spiritual life that is built on the sandy foundations of platitudes or slogans. Christ comes into this world as a man so that we might know him as God. The Christian spiritual life is a continual intensification of our experience and understanding of this revelation.

The tendency to dilute or deny the truth of the Incarnation has been a temptation in every age of the Church. The world may prefer another kind of Christ, but if that is the world’s preference, Athanasius invites us to stand with him “contra mundi.” For appeasement is the death sentence for the church.

The Making Of A Myth

There is a reason that most idealists tend to be young (and naïve), while realists tend to be older (and wiser, having witnessed first hand the devastating effects of sin in this fallen world.) Evil is real.

Kayla Mueller was kidnapped by ISIS while illegally in Syria and made a sex slave. She was tragically killed in an airstrike before her family was able to free her for the ransom demanded by ISIS. While she is commonly presented by the media as a humanitarian "aid worker", there is more to her story. In fact, she was far more of an "activist" than a true aid worker. She was illegally in Syria and unexpectedly showed up at a hospital operated by Doctors Without Borders - not to provide "aid", but to accompany her Syrian boyfriend who had been contracted to perform IT repairs at the hospital. The hospital immediately made arrangements to return her to Turkey the next day, but she was kidnapped at the bus station.
I have no doubt that Kayla genuinely was a compassionate person and wanted to help make the world a better place. But Kayla was the victim of a progressive liberal worldview that denied the reality of evil ... and paid a heavy price for her naivete'. She was involved with the radical group "International Solidarity Movement" [ISM] which supports terrorism and calls for the destruction of the state of Israel. ISM members are part of the political culture that portrays terrorism as the result of U.S. foreign policy and/or of poverty caused by capitalism. This political culture is impervious to the overwhelming evidence that terrorism is spawned by ideology and Islam, not by poverty. It is a culture that leads young Americans like Kayla, taught by Movement rhetoric to blame their own country for Islamist terrorism, to attempt to save the world by going to the aid of the people that American power is oppressing. America and Israel are portrayed as the world's most oppressive regimes.

Ultimately, Mueller was the tragic victim of an idealistic, faulty worldview. Her efforts led her to Syria, where ISIS took her hostage and sold her to a militant commander for a sex-slave war trophy. She paid a heavy price for her worldview.

Diversity: History's Pathway To Chaos

There's an interesting perspective here theorizing that diversity has historically been the pitfall and not strength of nations. He warns that America's "successful melting pot should not be replaced with discredited salad-bowl separatism."

New John Hopkins Report - No Scientific Evidence That People Are Born Gay or Transgender

Distinguished scholars from John Hopkins have released a new detailed report here entitled "Sexuality & Gender; Findings From the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences". They argue there is not enough definitive scientific evidence available to suggest that gay, lesbian and transgender individuals are born with a certain sexual orientation or gender identity. In the three-part report published by The New Atlantis, Lawrence Mayer, a scholar-in-residence at Johns Hopkins University's psychiatry department and a professor of statistics and biostatistics at Arizona State University, and Paul McHugh, a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins, take on prevailing claims that sexual orientation and gender dysphoria are caused by natural traits.
Additionally, the scholars challenge the claim that discrimination and social stigma is the sole reason why those with same-sex attractions or transgender identity suffer higher rates of mental health problems.

Of course, don't expect to hear anything about this in the mainstream media which has brought into the fantasy of "transgenderism" and "gender fluidity" lock, stock & barrel. Undoubtedly the political progressive elites who are firmly ensconced in their concocted worldview will also ignore it.

When one repeatedly and consciously rejects evidence that their worldview conclusions are wrong, common sense goes out the window. The door to insanity opens.

Welfare for ISIS

There's an article here entitled "How the U.S. nurtures jihadists on its own soil" on how Muslims use U.S. generosity and willful ignorance to further their jihadist cause.

Maine Gov. Paul LePage is seeking sweeping changes in the way refugees are awarded welfare benefits after he blew the whistle on an “embarrassing” situation in his own state. An Iranian refugee left Maine to fight for ISIS while he and his family received food stamps and other benefits for four years. LePage is calling for an audit of all taxpayer-funded payouts to refugees in his state and nationwide, the Boston Herald reported in an article titled, “Welfare for ISIS: The outrageous case of Iranian refugee Adnan Fazeli.”

Fazeli, 38, came to Freeport, Maine, in 2009 and was killed last year on the battlefield in Lebanon after abandoning his wife and three kids to join the terror army, according to federal court documents unsealed this week and disclosed by the Herald.

... LePage said the stunning news of an ISIS convert in his midst has left him “embarrassed” and outraged at President Obama’s “failed” vetting of immigrants, adding he’s fed up with states like his being left to deal with the refugee crisis.

“If people need to eat, I’ll feed them. But I want to keep Americans safe,” LePage told the Herald. “This is very embarrassing to the state of Maine, and I point the finger at the president and say, ‘How did this happen?’ If the federal government doesn’t do their job we don’t know what we’re getting.”

... The governor’s exposure of the “welfare for jihad” angle to the federal refugee resettlement program opens Pandora’s Box for other states where refugees have gone off the rails, boarding flights to Africa or the Middle East to fight for Islamic terror organizations. The FBI has confirmed, for instance, that at least 35 Somalis have since 2007 left Minnesota and other states to join either al-Shabab in Somalia or ISIS in Syria, and certainly most would have been on welfare.

The Muslim sowing of the seed of stealth (soft) jihad in the west that has been underway for decades (via mass immigration) is now mature to the point where the fruit of violent jihad is blossoming.

This Isn't Just Bad Teaching; It's Dangerous Teaching

Ignoring explicit Biblical truth and orthodox Christian tradition condemning extra-marital sex, the "Rev" Bromleigh McCleneghan, a married mother of three and associate pastor for ministry with families at Union Church of Hinsdale in Illinois, declares that single Christians can have sex as long as it's "mutually pleasurable and affirming."

... I'd argue that we can be chaste — faithful — in unmarried sexual relationships if we exercise restraint: if we refrain from having sex that isn't mutually pleasurable and affirming, that doesn't respect the autonomy and sacred worth of ourselves and our partners," she explained.
McCleneghan believes it's unfair to ask single Christians who haven't been called to a life of celibacy to refrain from sexual intimacy when both men and women need sex.

Read about it here.

This is a perfect example of the treacherous reading into Scripture one's own version of "truth". The final waypoint for this mindset is apostasy. Such teachers should ponder the sobering meaning of James 3:1.

One Front In An Unseen War Of Cosmic Proportion.

Clenard Childress, senior pastor for New Calvary Baptist in New Jersey, pulls no punches and powerfully writes here in an opinion column that the Black Lives Matter movement needs to separate itself from Planned Parenthood. To be blunt about it - How can Black Lives Matter when 20 million black babies have been aborted?

The African American community was once viewed as the conscience of the nation but has now paid the Piper – wolves in sheep’s clothing – to facilitate the theft of our heritage and historic legacy. Never before in the African American experience has there been a time where the machinations of manipulative “House Negroes” and diabolical racists, can be seen so clearly.

... Yet there has never been a “stranger paradox” than the announcement that Planned Parenthood is in collaboration with “Black Life Matters,” the epitome of oxymoronic examples. Now I say to all Americans, but especially and in particular to my African American Brothers and Sisters (of which I am one): Will you ever recognize this conspiracy against you? For the leading killer of innocent unarmed African Americans – whose hands were up, but given no choice nor chance at the American Dream their fellow African American, Dr. Martin Luther King preached about – is Planned Parenthood! Black Life Matters has just teamed up with the most destructive racist machine in America and American history, whose founder, Margaret Sanger, was the most devout racist of her time! Paradoxically, and unbelievably, Black Life Matters has linked itself to the Abortion Industry whose main target has always been Black Life and whose founder clearly had great disdain for Black Life, for in an almost Hitleresque way, Margaret Sanger stated

“…They shouldn’t have been born, a menace to society, human weeds that need to be exterminated…!”

So let’s get this straight, my Black Brothers and Sisters: Black Life Matters is partnering with an institution which was designed with the hope of completely eliminating African American people. Some would call this genocide, for this same organization is responsible for over twenty million (20,000,000) African Americans missing by sanctioned murder in America. And to add insult to injury, after brutally killing and dismembering these infants within the womb – in a nod to the bad old days of the Slave Block prior to 1865 – Planned Parenthood was caught in a sting selling these African American body parts for profit as determined by a US Congressional investigation and hearing last year. Black Life Matters now becomes bait for unsuspecting Black women to be lured into Planned Parenthood’s killer clinics of Black Life.

In July 2015, Kevin Jackson wrote,

I have warned Democrats that one day something will happen to wake black people up to the destruction Democrats have wreaked in the black community.

Who knew it was would be the killing of black babies.

Like Obama, who calls babies in the womb, “burdens”, Liberals don’t care about human life, which means they certainly don’t care about black human life. #BlackLivesMatter for votes and votes alone. And when blacks’ usefulness is used up, Liberals will finish their destruction of blacks and move along like it never happened.

Kevin raises an interesting point with his charge that "liberals will finish their destruction of blacks and move along like it never happened." Indeed. But it's not just black lives. Progressive Liberalism, with Secular Humanism as its godfather, is wreaking deadly havoc in the lives of millions of all races and ethnic origins. Bending truth to its whims until there is no longer any anchor to reality, this deadly philosophy is sprouting in the blind minds of countless political and judicial leaders who are leading multitudes into a minefield from which there is no return. The destruction of babies in the womb is but one front in a violent unseen war of cosmic proportion.

Pew Research: More Americans Are Junking Religion And Giving Up On God.

A sobering new Pew Research study finds here that Americans are increasingly giving up on God and the supernatural. Half of Americans who left their church no longer believe in God according to the new survey. The survey is the one of several recent ones from Pew demonstrating a disturbing trend in America: more and more Americans are junking religion and giving up on God. This accounts for the growing hopelessness within the culture.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons (1 Tim 4:1,ESV)

Dragged Into Paradise Kicking & Screaming

Dr. Samuel Harrington, an experienced physician, articulates here in his article entitled "Mission Creep Doesn’t Benefit Patients At The End Of Life" something that I've espoused for a while - advanced medical care at the end of life can be a two-edged sword. While western medicine is a wonderful benefit, it often also turns death from what used to be an event into a multi-year process characterized by loss of mobility, senility, incontinence, pain and suffering.

It is important to make the distinction between killing someone and letting them die - i.e., letting a process that is underway proceed without interference. In cases where a patient has clearly articulated their desire to die, and where there is no reasonable hope of recovery and death appears imminent - it does not seem morally wrong to allows one to die rather than initiating an artificial life support system or prolong the dying process by artificial means.

It's mystifying to me when mature Christians who are elderly and in failing health approach death with a firm resolve to cling to life for as long as absolutely possible with every possible resource available. Figuratively speaking they hang onto this world by their fingernails and have to be dragged into Paradise kicking and screaming. Suicide and euthanasia are morally wrong. But death itself is a release for the believer - as Paul says, it is far better to depart this fallen world and be with Christ (Phil 1:23). I believe part of the problem is the reluctance of the church to theologically deal with the topic of death head-on, instead of leaving it as a White Elephant that everyone knows about, but nobody talks about. I can understand unbelievers fearing death and availing themselves of every last possible medical option and grasping at the last straw, no matter how painful or expensive, to "buy" a few more moments.

For those that exercise repentant faith, Christ delivers us from the fear of death (Heb 2:14-15) and God astonishingly views our deaths as "precious" (Ps 116:15).

The ESV Study Bible provides pertinent theological analysis for difficult end-of-life issues:

The End of Life

As a result of the fall, physical death is inevitable for all people (Rom. 5:12–14; 1 Cor. 15:21–22). The process of dying is frequently accompanied by illness, suffering, and pain. Euthanasia is one way people have sought to eliminate end-of-life suffering. Euthanasia occurs when a terminally ill person dies as a result of a deliberate act of commission (active euthanasia) or omission (passive euthanasia) by another person seeking to hasten the ill person’s death in order to end his or her suffering. The person who is ill may have given informed consent (voluntary), may have withheld consent (involuntary), or may have been incompetent to give consent (non-voluntary).

Active euthanasia is clearly prohibited by the sixth commandment, regardless of the ill person’s request. This moral principle is seen in the case of King Saul. Fatally injured, Saul commanded his armor-bearer to kill him so that he would not suffer humiliation from his enemies. His armor-bearer refused, however (1 Sam. 31:3–5). In contrast, when the Amalekite brought news of Saul’s death to David, claiming that he had killed Saul at the king’s own request in order to end his misery, David executed the Amalekite for taking Saul’s life (2 Sam. 1:1–16).

Passive euthanasia involves withholding either natural life-sustaining means (e.g., food, water, air) or unnatural life-sustaining means (e.g., life-supporting machines) in order to cause death and thus end suffering. Many Christian ethicists believe that withholding natural means of life-sustenance from helpless patients is comparable to withholding the same means from an infant, as it will directly cause death. This act of negligence leading to death is thus also viewed as being prohibited by the sixth commandment. A somewhat different question is whether doctors are ethically able to withhold futile treatments that do not improve the prospect of recovery and only prolong the process of dying when death is imminent and inevitable. In such cases, according to some Christian ethicists, it is morally acceptable to allow such a person to die, though whenever there is a reasonable chance of recovery or improvement of the quality of life this should be pursued.

The bottom line:  Despite Silicon Valley's infatuation with immortality, barring the return of Christ, death is inevitable for everyone of us without exception. But Christians stand alone in the glorious truth that death has no hold over us. If you're a Christian, exercise your end-of-life choices wisely; you have options.

Md. school district: Don’t tell parents if transgender males bunk with their daughters

As reported here, a Maryland school district instructed teachers not to tell parents if their daughters are bunking with male students who identify as girls on overnight field trips.

Bob Mosier, chief communications officer for Anne Arundel County Public Schools, says in a training video detailing how to accommodate transgender students that privacy issues regarding the student prevent the district from informing parents about such arrangements.

“So, many of you might be asking yourselves, ‘So I’m at an overnight field trip, and I have student who’s biologically a male, identifies as a female, and we’ve worked with that student and her family, and that student wants to sleep in the dorms, or whatever sleeping arrangements are, with the females,’” Mr. Mosier says in a video of the training session. “They don’t want to sleep in a room by themselves; they want to sleep with the rest of the females. So what do we do?"

“And the answer is, they sleep with the females,” he said. “That’s not the easy answer; it’s the right answer. And in some cases, it’s going to cause issues, because … the private information piece doesn’t allow you to share that with parents of all of the other campers. Right? So that’s difficult.”

I used to be a supporter of public education. But public (government) schools in the U.S. have morphed from educational institutions that were purveyors of truth into vocal disseminators of a fantasy worldview with no basis in reality. They are the chief propagandists now for secular humanism and openly articulate a perspective hostile to Biblical truth. An official organ of the government, they are the mouthpiece to the vast majority of America's youth for the insane policies of a bureaucracy not tethered to reality. The seed they sow lays a foundation for lives of misery and hopelessness.

It's wise for Christian parents with children in public education to seek an alternative.

This Is The End-Game When One Creates Their Own Truth

Before kidnapping Elizabeth Smart, Brian David Mitchell was arrested at age 16 for allegedly exposing himself to an 8-year-old girl. Mitchell's second wife filed a police report in 1985 alleging that Mitchell molested two of their children. Mitchell's stepdaughter stated that Mitchell repeatedly sexually abused her and manipulated her into remaining silent. Mitchell had a history of pedophilia and he had stalked other teenaged girls in the Salt Lake City area prior to and after the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping.

In the video below, an FBI agent and a Salt Lake City police detective interview kidnapper Brian David Mitchell in 2003 after he was found with Elizabeth Smart, who had been missing since 2002. This interview, which was released after motions filed by The Salt Lake Tribune, was played for the jury in open court during Mitchell's 2010 trial. He was found guilty of kidnapping and sentenced to life in federal prison.

Listen to him as he repeatedly presents himself as a "true prophet of Jesus Christ" and then understand that he kidnapped Elizabeth Smart at knifepoint from her bedroom at the age of 14 and repeatedly raped and sexually abused her ("on a daily basis up to three or four times") until she was rescued 9 months later. Elizabeth recently spoke out here about the key role pornography played in her abduction and abuse.

This is the end-game when someone creates their own truth, putting themselves at the center of their existence - insanity and unspeakable, horrific acts against others. As one of the law enforcement officers says to Mitchell, "This is all about you and what you want."

Driving Through Detroit At Night

The video above is entitled "Driving Through Detroit At Night." Detroit was once the 5th largest economy in the U.S.  Now bankrupt, the city is a morass of crime and poverty, and the poster child for both secular humanism and progressive liberalism that have sown their seed in that city for decades. Like a nightmarish scene out of 1981 movie "Escape From New York", the video depicts gangs gathered on the sidewalk, fires in the street, prostitutes lifting up their skirts and dancing, and even a man being run over by a car on purpose.

The video lasts two minutes 20 seconds and captures a truly horrible look at a city that was once the most prosperous place in America. In 2013 the city went bankrupt, and spiraled into a depression of crime and unemployment. The following year, Detroit was listed as having the highest murder rates of any major city in the country, according to the FBI.

This is a glimpse at the future of America unless we repent and radically alter the trajectory we currently are skyrocketing aloft on.

A Concocted Utopian Fantasy With Little Basis In Reality

The truth is that many of the initiatives pushed by progressive liberals, in fact hurt the very people (the poor) that they popularly portray themselves as champions of.

For example, lotteries are an increasingly popular way for deficit governments to fund their out-of-control spending. But Business Insider reports here the unpopular truth that lotteries are in fact a tax on the poor - the very ones that lottery champions tell us are helped.

... we want to reiterate the cruel truth about lotteries. They are (1) regressive taxes on poor people, in that a ticket costs relatively more for a poor person than a rich person, and (2) punitive taxes on the poor and uneducated people who are the most avid buyers. The people who can least afford it are throwing away an average of 47 cents on the dollar every time they buy a ticket. And the government, which relies increasingly on the lottery for funding, goes out of its way to tell them it is a good idea. Obviously we have an opinion here, but it is an opinion grounded in numerous studies.

And as reported here, legalized marijuana is making America’s lower class poorer and less responsible.

But legalization and our growing cultural acceptance of marijuana have disproportionately affected one group in particular: the lower class.

A recent study by Steven Davenport of RAND and Jonathan Caulkins of Carnegie Mellon notes that “despite the popular stereotype of marijuana users as well-off and well-educated . . . they lag behind national averages” on both income and schooling.

For instance, people who have a household income of less than $20,000 a year comprise 19 percent of the population but make up 28 percent of marijuana users. And even though those who earn more than $75,000 make up 33 percent of the population, 25 percent of them are marijuana users. Having more education also seems to make it less likely that you are a user. College graduates make up 27 percent of the population but only 19 percent of marijuana users.

... The new study, which looked at use rates between 1992 and 2013, also found that the intensity of use had increased in this time. The proportion of users who smoke daily or near daily has increased from 1 in 9 to 1 in 3. As Davenport tells me, “This dispels the idea that the typical user is someone on weekends who has a casual habit.”

Sally Satel, a psychiatrist and lecturer at Yale, says “it is ironic that the people lobbying for liberalized marijuana access do not appear to be the group that is consuming the bulk of it.” Instead, it’s “daily and near-daily users, who are less educated, less affluent and less in control of their use.”

In fact, the typical user is much more likely to be someone at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder, whose daily life is driven, at least in part, by the question of how and where to get more marijuana. Just consider the cost. Almost a third of users are spending a tenth of their income on marijuana. And 15 percent of users spend nearly a quarter of their income to purchase the drug. The poor have not only become the heaviest users, but their use is making them poorer.

The problem is that the progressive liberal worldview is a concocted utopian fantasy of self-proclaimed "truth" with little basis in reality.

The Islamic Destruction Of Europe

All Christians Possess The Right To Bear And Deploy The Most Devastating Weapon Of All

The Syrian refugee plaguing Europe; coupled with the rise in Islamic terror attacks on the continent is spurring some party leaders in Germany to demand German gun laws be loosened to allow private citizens the right to defend themselves. T. Becket Adams of The Washington Examiner reports here that Frauke Petry of Alternative for Germany is calling for a right to bear arms in her country:

A wave of sexual assaults and fatal Islamist attacks in Europe have some German politicians calling for a loosening of gun-control laws.

The leader of the Alternative for Germany party, Frauke Petry, said in a recent interview that Islamist attacks in Germany and elsewhere suggest that the German people should be able to arm themselves with firearms and other means of self-defense.

"Many people are increasingly feeling unsafe. Every law-abiding citizen should be in a position to defend themselves, their family and their friends," Petry said.

"We all know how long it takes until the police can get to the scene, especially in sparsely populated places," she added.

While American Citizens currently have the right to bear arms, liberal progressives increasingly call for greater restrictions and even outright abolishment of the Second Amendment which guarantees this right. The legal theory of the right to bear arms is here.

Donnie offers a theological perspective here on the thorny question of Christians bearing arms:

It is no small thing to take the life of another person, even if it is justifiable. Furthermore, the consequences and collateral damage of violent defensive action are often difficult to deal with afterwards, and our spiritual, mental, and even financial well-being may be at stake, as well as the well-being of innocent by standers. We should have given a great deal of thought to this before we ever draw a firearm on another human being, and we should pursue a vigilant prayer life asking God to arm us with wisdom, humility, and courage each and every day.

... You see, whether we have a right to self-defense by means of violence is an ethical problem. It is something that must be derived from a broad understanding of Biblical teaching and theology by asking the question ‘how should we live’. It should not become a dogmatic issue of the fundamentals of the Faith. It is an issue that because of a lack of clear Biblical prescription must be held in tension with other Biblical teaching that is not meant to be all-inclusive. It cannot always be assumed as right nor can it always be excluded as wrong.

The bottom line is that contrary to what progressive elites may naively believe, we don't live in Utopia. In fact, the truth is that this fallen world is full of wolves looking for easy prey. Most wolves prowl outside the church, preying upon whatever hapless victims they come across. They come in all shapes and sizes:  they may be con-artists preying upon the elderly, sex offenders preying upon women and children, thieves preying upon the unwary, unscrupulous politicians preying upon their constituents, biased media preying upon the naïve, or unethical employers preying upon their workers. There is no end to sin's ingenuity when it comes to preying on others.

Here's why some law-abiding American citizens choose to arm themselves.

But the most dangerous wolves by far are the ones masquerading as sheep inside the church. They sow discord among the flock and poison with false doctrine/teaching. Physical firearms are of little use in the battle against them. Truth is the most potent weapon against wolves in the church. But just as a firearm can only be proficiently wielded by someone trained and practiced in its use, so truth is most effectively employed by Christians that have been instructed and trained to handle & unleash truth. While not everyone can wield a physical firearm, all Christians possess the right to bear and deploy the most devastating weapon of all - the sword of Absolute Truth.
Unfortunately, far too many of us increasingly leave it in the scabbard.

Like A Light Draws Moths

A man is in jail after being accused of looking up girls skirts at a Target store in Albany. Police arrested a man, later identified as 20-year-old Daniel Sappington, a registered sex offender, the day after they received a call from shoppers reporting his “suspicious” activity.  Story is  here.

Duh.  Target's policy is a magnet for sex offenders, like light is to moths.

The Problem with Abortion

In Love With The World

Scott Lively has a sad editorial here entitled "World Vision loses sight of the Bible". The thrust of his thesis (which has merit) is that Christian institutions have a dangerous tendency to lose their biblical grounding and adopt worldly compromises the larger and more prosperous they become.

Recently, the Christian mega-charity World Vision was exposed and publicly shamed by the nation of Israel for allowing diversion of donor money to the Hamas terror organization.

... I’d like to remind everyone of the giant red flag the Lord gave us in March of 2014 about the extent to which World Vision had departed from the biblical worldview in its declaration of support for “gay marriage.”

There’s a lesson here about Christian institutions having a tendency to lose their biblical grounding and adopt worldly compromises the larger and more prosperous they become. Harvard University was established to train young men for Bible-centered ministry, and look at it today .... There’s tremendous pressure on Bible-based entities these days, and the more their focus is on money, or preserving the institution rather than the founders’ vision, the more they compromise.

There is a passing reference to the disciple Demas in Paul's last letter; 2 Tim 4:10 - "For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica." In Aug 2013, Gordon Franz published an online article entitled "Demas: Lover of This Present World". Here are extracts:

Demas first appears in the Bible when he was in Rome during the Apostle Paul’s first imprisonment (AD 60-62).  Paul is under house arrest in his rented house and is allowed visitors (Acts 28:30, 31).  In the last chapter of the Book of Colossians there are at least eight believers with Paul at this time who are known by the saints in the Lycus Valley where Colossae is located.  Six of them send their greetings to the churches in the valley (Col. 4:10-14), five of them will send their personal greetings to Philemon at Colossae as well (Philemon 23, 24).  Justus, apparently was not known by Philemon.  Two other brothers, Tychicus and Onesimus, will take the letters back to the valley (Col. 4:7-9).

The two lists of greetings provide small details about Demas.  In Colossians, he is listed with Luke and Epaphras (4:12-14), where they are set in contrast with the three Jewish believers, Aristarchus, Mark, and Jesus – called Justus, mentioned previously (4:10, 11).  This passage seems to indicate that Demas was a Gentile.

In the greetings to Philemon, Demas is included in the statement that he is a fellow laborer with Paul (Philemon 24). The word “fellow-laborer” (sunergos) has the idea of a co-worker. W. D. Thomas pointed out that the “word implies that two people are working closely together as partners, sharing work and responsibility.  There is even the suggestion of equality in the word co-worker.”  He goes on to say that Demas was a “close confidant of Paul, sharing the Apostle’s vision of winning the world for God” (1983-84: 179). Apparently Demas was a visiting missionary to the Lycus Valley at one time because they knew him, thus his greetings to them.  He was not a local brother like Epaphras (4:12). As for the timing of his visit to the Lycus Valley, the Scriptures are silent.

The Greek scholar Kenneth Wuest states: “The Greek word ‘forsaken’ (egkataleipo) means ‘to abandon, desert, leave in straits, leave helpless, leave in the lurch, let one down’” (1966:2: 164).

... Why Demas went to Thessalonica, and what he did there is not revealed in the Scriptures.  Hanson gives a tantalizing note in his commentary on the Pastoral Epistles.  He said: “A copyist in a manuscript preserved in the Medici Library in Florence adds in the margin the information that Demas became a priest of a pagan temple at Thessalonica.  On what authority he says this we do not know” (1966: 100).  If this footnote is true, the allurement that Demas fell for was the pride of life.

“Golden-mouth” John Chrysostom, the eloquent preacher who lived about AD 400 suggests that “having loved his own ease and security from danger, he has chosen rather to live luxuriously at home, than to suffer hardships” apparently with Paul (quoted in Oden 1989:176).  If this is the case, the allurement that Demas fell for was the lust of the flesh because he wanted the easy life.

W. F. Boyd conjectures: “In this case the prospect of civil honors may have been the reason which led him to abandon the hardships and dangers of the Apostle’s life and return to Thessalonica, where his family may have help positions of influence” (1916: 287).  If this is the case, the allurement that enticed Demas was again the pride of life.

Polycarp, the bishop of Smyrna, in the first half of the 2nd century AD, wrote an epistle to the church at Philippi.  In the ninth chapter of his epistle, he listed some of the martyrs of the early church: Ignatius, Zosimus, Rufus, Paul and other apostles, and said that all these had not “run in vain” because they did not “love this present world” (Polycarp to the Philippians 9:1, 2; LCL I: 295).  Polycarp hints at the fact that he is referring to Demas when he lists the martyrs and said they did not love this present world.  The implication was that Demas did not want to be a martyr so he abandoned Paul in Rome just before he was executed.  If this is the case, the allurement that enticed Demas was the pride of life.  He valued his earthy life more than receiving the crown of life (James 1:12; Rev. 2:10).

... Jesus gives a series of parables during the fall of AD 28 from a boat in a cove of the Sea of Galilee.  While speaking to the multitude that is seated in the natural amphitheater to the west of Capernaum, He spots a farmer sowing seeds on the hillside. He says, “Let me tell you about the four different types of soil that the seed is falling onto.  The first soil was actually the road that runs along the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Here, the birds of the air ate the seeds.  The second soil was the stony ground. The seeds spouted for a short while until the heat of the sun scorched the plant and it withered away.  The third soil that the seeds fell on was the thorny ground.  Here the thorns eventually choked the plants. The final soil that the seeds fell on was good soil and the plants produced 30, 60 and 100 fold” (Matt. 13:3-9; Mark 4:1-8; Luke 8:4-8). Later, when Jesus interpreted this parable to His disciples, He said of the second soil, that when tribulation and persecution came, the believer would stumble.  Of the third soil, He said that because of the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches, the word of God is choked in the life of the believer and he becomes unfruitful (Matt. 13:18-23; Mark 4:13-20; Luke 8:11-15; for a full discussion of the Parable of the Four Soils, see Quick 1977).  Demas “loving this present world” would fall in either the second or third soils. This was not the normal Christian life, but rather, the sub-normal Christian Life. The fourth soil was the normal Christian life, producing fruit in the life of the believer.

Removing The Christians Is Akin To Throwing Gasoline On The Fire

John Stonestreet reports on Breakpoint here that there are ominous signs for Turkish Christians who are fast becoming Post-Coup Targets.

... it seems as if Turkey is now on its way to falling into an intolerant form of Islam—if it hasn’t already. How do I know this? By listening to the country’s beleaguered Christian minority, which has dwindled from 22 percent of the population to a microscopic 0.2 percent just over the last century

Nine out of ten Turks believe that to be a Turk is to be a Muslim, so non-Muslims are automatically suspect. Such suspicion has led to violence against Christians even before the latest attacks. The Express notes, “In 2007, three Christian employees of a publishing house for Bibles in Malatya were attacked. After being tortured, their hands and feet were tied and their throats cut by five Muslim assailants.”

Today, imams subsidized by the government are reading sermons warning that Turks should not befriend Jews or Christians. “There’s no doubt that the government uses the mosques to get its message across to its grassroots supporters,” a pastor in Istanbul says. “There’s an atmosphere in Turkey right now that anyone who isn’t Sunni is a threat to the stability of the nation.”

I might add that it's not only Muslim-dominated cultures that are targeting Christians in times of trouble. The West increasingly singles out Christians as a contributory cause of the growing moral chaos ... when the Christian are ironically the restrainers. Removing them is akin to throwing gasoline on the fire.

For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. (2 Thess 2:7, ESV)

It's What You Do In The Dark That Puts You In The Light

There is an element of truth in Michael Phelps (greatest Olympian in history) powerful new ad for Under Armour. The final admonition to rule oneself is appropriate; self control is after all, a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-23) and God graces those in Christ with self control (2 Tim 1:7). Perhaps the most pertinent passage is found in 1 Cor 9:24-27 where Paul exhorts us to "run" to win the race for an imperishable prize.

Damn The Torpedoes - Full Speed Ahead!

The video above records a Soviet nuclear torpedo test in 1955.

David Farragut was a flag officer of the United States Navy during the American Civil War. He is remembered for his order at the Battle of Mobile Bay (in which he was victorious) usually paraphrased as "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" in U.S. Navy tradition. While viewed with a positive historical perspective, the phrase can also ominously mean something else - i.e., "to hell with any consequences."

There is "no scientific basis" for transgender individuals to believe that they are trapped in the wrong body, the American College of Pediatricians argued in a recently released report here addressing gender dysphoria in children. While the Obama administration tries to enforce a transgender bathroom directive in schools across the nation to allow boys to use girls' bathrooms and locker rooms if they identify as female, ACP, a coalition of pediatricians, stated in a report released earlier this month that it is unethical for adults to condition children to misperceive the "physical reality" of their own bodies. Primarily authored by Dr. Michelle Cretella, a Connecticut-based pediatrician, the report states that gender dysphoria is merely a "psychological" condition and suggests that about 80 to 95 percent of children who believe that they are boys and girls trapped in the wrong body will eventually grow up to accept the reality of their biological sex.

"The treatment of GD in childhood with hormones effectively amounts to mass experimentation on, and sterilization of, youth who are cognitively incapable of providing informed consent," the report explains. "There is a serious ethical problem with allowing irreversible, life-changing procedures to be performed on minors who are too young to give valid consent themselves; adolescents cannot understand the magnitude of such decisions." Earlier this year, the ACP released a statement contending that the act of "conditioning children into believing that a lifetime of chemical and surgical impersonation of the opposite sex is normal and healthful is child abuse."

The deranged infatuation with transgenderism by the government indicates that homosexuals increasingly occupy key positions of political/judicial authority and influence ... all the way to the top. No other explanation is credible. The insane policy directives, in repeated contradiction of the expressed will of the majority doesn't bode well for the culture. Nuclear torpedoes of judgment, unleashed by political leaders and judges mad with lust, are fast bearing down on the American culture. Yet, they arrogantly proclaim " Damn The Torpedoes - Full Speed Ahead!" in the end-game of our existence (Rom 1:18-32).

Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. (Gal 6:7-8, ESV)

The long term consequences will be far more wide-ranging and devastating

As noted earlier here, Target's crazy "transgender" policy that allows men to use women's restrooms and dressing rooms had predictable results that anyone with simple common sense could have foreseen. (I conclude that common sense must be non-existent among Target's corporate leadership.) What is happening now in the culture with the transgender rage, is prima facie evidence of Scripture's warning that the wicked freely strut about when what is vile is publicly honored (Ps 12:8). As a moth is inevitably drawn to light and destruction, so a fallen world is helplessly captivated by the deadly allure of sin.

It now appears the declared boycott of Target by those opposed to this insanity, is indeed having a financial impact on Target as reported here.

Target reported today it has cut its profit and comparable-store sales outlook amid stiffer competition and its own stumbles in areas like grocery sales. The discounter's second-quarter net income fell nearly 10 percent, though that was better than what most had expected. According to The Associated Press, sales at stores open at least a year fell 1.1 percent, reversing seven straight quarters of gains. Shares fell nearly 4 percent in before the opening bell Wednesday.

... Target made a conscious marketing decision to appeal to 0.003 percent of the population at the risk of alienating 99.9 percent of the population

Sin always has consequences - both long term and short term. The short term consequences for Target include a significant financial aspect. The long term consequences however will be far more wide-ranging and devastating.

What Riots Are Good For: Pay Up, or Else

Ben Shapiro lays his cards on the table here in his editorial entitled "What Riots Are Good For: Pay Up, or Else".

This week saw the latest in a spate of riots in Democratic cities: Milwaukee burned. It burned not because of some grave racial injustice, but because a black officer shot a black suspect armed with a stolen gun. That’s the new normal: Ferguson burned because a white officer shot a black man who tried to take his gun and then charged him; Baltimore burned because a group of officers, some of whom were black, didn’t buckle a black suspect into a seat, and that suspect died in the back of a police van.

Circumstance no longer matters, however; neither does proof of systemic discrimination. No, the only thing that matter is the perception of racial discrimination. And that perception justifies violent racist action

That’s what happened in Milwaukee, which has — not coincidentally — seen a 70 percent spike in murder from 2014 to 2015. Rioters torched a gas station while shouting “black power!” Some tried to chase down white citizens unfortunate enough to drive into the wrong area. A leftist white journalist fled the city after being targeted for his race; another reporter was chased by men in a Chevy Suburban because he is white.

Great Racial Unifier™ President Obama couldn’t be reached for comment — he was busy golfing. The media, meanwhile, continue to mirror the stance of CNN’s Marc Lamont Hill, who calls such riots “uprisings” and states that there is a need for “resistance to oppression . . . and you can’t circumscribe resistance,” and declares, with no sense of irony, that black Americans cannot be racist ....

... the Left has used riots as a tool of policy for decades.

... There’s something stomach-churning about the logic here. Leftists have governed virtually every city in which major riots have taken place, from Milwaukee (no Republican mayor since 1908) to Baltimore (no Republican mayor since 1967) to Los Angeles (before the 1992 L.A riots, no Republican mayor since 1961) to Detroit (where the mayor during the 1967 riots was a Democrat who had walked arm-in-arm with Martin Luther King). Yet instead of governing properly — instead of making life better for their citizens — politicians have worked hand-in-glove with agitators who riot, thereby placing outside pressure on politicians to take radical action. This inside-outside game perverts politics itself: Instead of voters electing politicians who will enact their agenda, politicians become tools of violent mobs — or worse, instigators of those mobs for purposes of clubbing the voters into submission.

He makes an interesting argument. As he notes, "politicians become ... instigators of those mobs for purposes of clubbing the voters into submission." The simple fact is that politicians will often use any good crisis to "club" the populace into submission. History bears testimony.

The Roman emperor Nero used the great conflagration of Rome in 64 A.D. to divert public attention away from his failed policies and to incite public animosity towards the Christians, who subsequently paid a heavy price. During the chaos of the fire, there were reports of heavy looting. The fire ended up raging out of control for nearly three days. Three of Rome’s 14 districts were completely wiped out; only four were untouched by the tremendous conflagration. While there is controversy regarding the origin of the fire, there is no disagreement among historians that Nero used the disaster to further his political agenda. In essence, the same thing is now happening with various governments using crisis-after-crisis to enforce their will upon the populace.

What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecc 1:9)

There Is No Limit To The Government's Depravity

President Barack Obama’s deputies will insert a rule in federal regulations on Friday to prevent federal facilities from operating single-sex bathrooms. The rule in the “Federal Register” of regulations will open up thousands of bathrooms in federally operated buildings to employees and visitors who claim on any given day to be “transgender” members of the opposite sex. BuzzFeed reports it obtained a draft notice of the rule that was sent to federal agencies. In addition to the estimated 1 million federal civilian workers employed in those spaces, GSA spokesperson Ashley Nash-Hahn told BuzzFeed News, the rule will cover anyone who enters the facilities — from people visiting courthouses to those stopping in at Social Security offices.

Read about it here.

So Consumed With Success That They Can't Stop To Smell The Flowers

Last week, I posted an entry here noting Silicon Valley's obsession with immortality. And now there's an enlightening interview here with Dave Chen, an engineering manager at Google Play in Silicon Valley. You glean quite a bit about values in the Valley if you read between the lines.

... In the Valley, everywhere you look there are people pushing for crazy amounts of success. In Maryland, people look at a job as a job and are less concerned about career, whereas in Silicon Valley people are very concerned about their careers.

... (in Ohio) I was a bagger at a grocery store and we pushed carts around. This was the 1990s and you still put pride in the job. At least I did. I worked with people everyday and their value system was very much focused around who you were outside of work. Who you are in the Midwest largely depends not on your job, but on your family, friends, and hobbies.

... Especially in tech, people are always chasing that next big thing. It can, in many cases, become “This is my purpose in life or my singular purpose.”

There is nothing wrong with maximum-effort work ... provided the motive is right. Everything we do in life should ultimately be for the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31;Col 3:17; etc.) You get a clear sense from David Chen that few people in Silicon Valley are working for the glory of God.

It's sobering to think that more-than-a-few people will stand before Christ on Judgment Day and point to a piece of software or hardware that quickly faded into obsolescence as the primary purpose of their life. In the meantime, their marriage disintegrated, their kids grew up without role-model parents, and they were callously blind to the real opportunities that God crossed their paths with - opportunities to help others, to befriend the friendless, to love their spouse, to freely share their God-given gifts and talents. Most devastatingly of all, they were too busy to respond to the tug of Christ's love in their hearts. They were so consumed with success that they couldn't stop to the smell the flowers of life. In a blinding flash, they are suddenly confronted with the sickening reality that virtually everything they held near-and-dear is meaningless from the perspective of eternity. While I am a fan of Apple products, at the moment of Steve Job's death, his fabulous wealth instantly became worthless to him.

For many, Silicon Valley (despite the notable products it produces) has figuratively become Babylon-The-Great (Rev 17-18).

Cultural Jihad - What Do American Schools Teach About Islam? PC or Nothing

Joy Pullmann draws back the curtain here on what American schools are (not) teaching about Islam.

As militant Islam becomes more prominent in world affairs, it becomes less prominent in American classrooms.

Jenny McKeigue’s youngest child enters seventh grade this fall, and she plans to excuse him from a world history class requirement to recite a Muslim conversion prayer called the shahada. McKeigue spent four years attempting to convince her school board in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, to alter some lessons and replace history textbooks after her oldest son in 2012 showed her a reality TV episode his teacher had played in class.

In “30 Days: Muslims and America,” an imam tells a Christian man attempting to live as a Muslim for 30 days that Muslims and Christians worship the same god. The Christian struggles with that idea but ultimately accepts it.

Independent reviewers McKeigue requested also found errors in the district’s textbooks such as listing eleven biblical commandments and stating Muslims historically “practiced religious tolerance” by requiring Christians and Jews to pay extra taxes—not mentioning the alternative was often death.

... the high school history textbook used in the Boston bombers’ public school, Cambridge Latin School, makes straightforward religious claims about Islam no textbook would mimic in a description of any other religion: “Muhammad’s teachings, which are the revealed word of God…” An unbiased textbook would say something like “Muslims believe Muhammad’s teachings are the revealed word of God.”

... 'Whoa, we have a problem.’ This is a cultural jihad. It’s a dangerous form because no one is going to know about this.”
He quotes Shabir Mansuri, the founder of the Muslim-Brotherhood-connected Council on Islamic Education, who said their work reviewing textbooks for major publishers is intended to produce a “bloodless” cultural revolution.

... Teacher resources she has written read like Muslim apologetics, including claims such as: “Customs such as honor killing are not part of Islam”; “Of the many current misperceptions about Islam, perhaps the most widespread is that women in Islamic law and Muslim society are oppressed and lack rights”; and “Jihad may not be conducted either to force people to convert or to annihilate or subdue people of other faiths.”

... “You can see the actual genocide carried against the Christians in the Middle East with very little protest from these departments, because of so many years of Arab supremacism,” Myers said. “In the main, the Middle East studies departments are anti-Western and anti-Israel.”

The wholesale capitulation to Islam by America at virtually every level of government is astonishing. It leads to two inevitable conclusions:
  1. Closet Islamists are hard-at-work in key positions of authority and influence in the government.
  2. The willful public suppression of the gospel is giving powerful demonic forces free reign. Darkness is the absence of light.

"Just Another Job”

There is a fascinating interview here with who is believed to be the last living survivor from the Nazi leadership’s inner circle - a secretary (now 105 years old) for the Nazi propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.

But Pomsel is unrepentant. As she holds court, gesticulating wildly, with a broad grin on her face, it seems as if she even takes something restorative from her insistence that she simply acted the same way as most other Germans.

“Those people nowadays who say they would have stood up against the Nazis – I believe they are sincere in meaning that, but believe me, most of them wouldn’t have.” After the rise of the Nazi party, “the whole country was as if under a kind of a spell,” she insists. “I could open myself up to the accusations that I wasn’t interested in politics but the truth is, the idealism of youth might easily have led to you having your neck broken.”

... It was the day after Hitler’s birthday in 1945 that her life as she knew it came to an abrupt halt. Goebbels and his entourage were ordered to join Hitler in his subterranean air raid shelter – the so-called Führerbunker – during the last days of the war. “It felt as if something inside me had died,” says Pomsel. “We tried to make sure we didn’t run out of alcohol. That was urgently needed in order to retain the numbness.” She lifts an index finger as she takes pains to tell events in their right order, recalling how Goebbels’ assistant Günther Schwägermann came with the news on 30 April that Hitler had killed himself, followed a day later by Goebbels. “We asked him: ‘And his wife as well?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘And the children?’ ‘And the children too.’” She bows her head and shakes it as she adds: “We were dumbstruck.” [Goebbels wife, Magda murdered her 6 children before committing suicide with her husband]

There are some hard lessons to be gleaned here:
  • Sin's end is never good; left to its own, it ultimately destroys everything and everyone that it touches.
  • An unrepentant heart will always justify itself no matter how horrific the actions may have been.
  • As noted here in 2015, some evil (the Third Reich is a good example) is beyond redemption and must be destroyed to prevent further carnage.
  • As Jesus said in Matt 21:44, when referring to Himself as the 'cornerstone' "And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”. Either we come to Him in repentant faith and let Him break our heart hardened by sin - or His fearsome judgment will one day crush us.

A Definition Of Delusional

Look in the dictionary under the word "Delusional" and this should be one of the definitions: the tendency to ascribe Islamic Attacks to "mentally confused" individuals

The Associated Press reports here that another attack occurred on a train in Austria with at least 2 passengers seriously wounded in a knife attack. Of course there is no mention of the attacker's identity ... which, given recent events, is almost surely Islamic.

The assault came three days after a man attacked passengers on a crowded Swiss train with a knife and burning liquid Saturday, in an assault that left him and one of his victims dead. In Austria, Vorarlberg police spokeswoman Elisabeth Engelhardt said police were searching for a motive as they questioned the man but "at this point there is no knowledge" of a copycat attack.

"We assume that the perpetrator is mentally confused," she said in an email.

St. Gallen police in Switzerland said Tuesday said that three victims of Saturday's attack remained in hospital, including a 17-year-old girl still in life-threatening condition.

Meanwhile, French drivers near Calais are being warned to stay off the roads as migrants (undoubtedly Islamic) smash cars as their owners sit in traffic "just for fun". Read about it here.

As noted earlier here, "mental illness" is the media and political elite's new cover for Islamic attacks. My advice if you're fortunate enough to reside somewhere like the U.S. to be able to do so? Arm yourself.

While sin inevitably produces "mental illness" in one form or another in everyone without exception until/unless they are freed in Christ (2 Cor 4:3-4; John 9:39; Rom 8:7-8), Islamists happen to exhibit a particularly brutal and violent form of it.

“Destroy the family and you destroy society."

Lenin famously said, “Destroy the family and you destroy society." He articulated what Socrates had said and regurgitated the thinking of Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx. Lenin set out to do just that, hoping that a new society -- with the State as the ultimate father -- would emerge.

Milwaukee Country Sheriff David Clarke, an African-American, believes there is a serious social problem at the heart of the unrest and the incidents with police nationwide. In an interview documented here, he does not believe racism was the cause of the recent Milwaukee riots, but "the law of the jungle" took over due to failed "progressive policies" implemented long ago by progressive liberals.

“Here is what causes riots,” he said. “We have inescapable poverty in the city of Milwaukee. Milwaukee is sixth poorest city in America. You have massive black unemployment, I think at 32 percent. You have a failing K-12 public education system. It’s one of the worst in the nation. You have questionable lifestyle choices. Some of this is self-inflicted. All the kids with no fathers around, father, absent homes. When fathers are not around to shape behavior of young men, they often times grow up to be unmanageable misfits.”

Citing statistics showing that about 70 percent of children born in Milwaukee don’t have “an engaged father in their life,” he argued that it’s “progressive policies that have marginalized black dads.”

“They push them to the side, said you’re not needed. Uncle Sam is going to be the dad. He’s going to provide for kids. He’s going to feed the kids,” Clarke said. “But Uncle Sam has been a horrible father. Uncle Sam does not like the kids. He keeps a little food in their mouth and that’s about it. But we all know the importance of an intact family, what it can do to shape behavior of kids.”

The impact of the welfare state can be seen in other cities as well, he added, naming Chicago, Baltimore and New York as examples.

“This has been a total collapse, a disaster,” he said. “These progressive policies have hit the black community like a nuclear blast. And until we reverse this, this government dependency, that is what creates all of this, and it encourages it by the way, along with questionable lifestyle choices.”

Marginalizing the crucial role of the father, the government effectively negated the positive impact of the family unit as designed by the Creator. And now, with the dissolution of the family unit complete with the mandate of same-sex marriage, the government has sown a fatal virus into the culture.

There is an undeniably hostile attack underway against the family and against the institution of marriage. The fruit ripening in the culture today (the high divorce rate; the rash number of unwed single mothers; the hoards of illegitimate children; homosexuality and lesbianism, sexual perversion and the alarming high number of abortions) is not some new phenomenon. It is an ingenious plot that has been in force for decades, designed to annihilate the family structure.

The nuclear family must be destroyed , and people must find better ways of living together. ... Whatever it’s ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objectively revolutionary process. ... "Families have supported oppression by separating people into small, isolated units, unable to join together to fight for common interests. ... — Functions of the Family, Linda Gordon, WOMEN: A Journal of Liberation, Fall, 1969.

"By the year 2000 we will, I hope, raise our children to believe in human potential, not God" — Gloria Steinem, editor of 'MS' magazine.

"We can't destroy the inequities between men and women until we destroy marriage. " -- [Robin Morgan, "Sisterhood Is Powerful," (ed), 1970, p. 537]

“The most merciful thing a large family can do to one of its infant members is to kill it"  — Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, in Women and the New Rage, p.67

"Marriage has existed for the benefit of men; and has been a legally sanctioned method of control over women... We must work to destroy it. The end of the institution of marriage is a necessary condition for the liberation of women.  Therefore it is important for us to encourage women to leave their husbands and not to live individually with men." —  The Declaration of Feminism , November 1971

"Only when manhood is dead - and it will perish when ravaged femininity no longer sustains it - only then will we know what it is to be free." -- [Andrea Dworkin. "The Root Cause," speech, 26 Sept. 1975, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge (published in Our Blood, ch. 9, 1976).]

"The care of children ...is infinitely better left to the best trained practitioners of both sexes who have chosen it as a vocation...[This] would further undermine family structure while contributing to the freedom of women." — Kate Millet, Sexual Politics 178-179

"In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them."    -- Dr. Mary Jo Bane, feminist and assistant professor of education at Wellesley College and associate director of the school's Center for Research on Woman

"Who cares how men feel or what they do or whether they suffer? They have had over 2000 years to dominate and made a complete hash of it. Now it is our turn. My only comment to men is, if you don't like it, bad luck - and if you get in my way I'll run you down." — Letter to the Editor: Women's Turn to Dominate, Signed: Liberated Women, Boronia; Herald-Sun, Melbourne, Australia, February 9, 1996

"Life in this society being, at best, an utter bore and no aspect of society being at all relevant to women, there remains to civic-minded, responsible, thrill-seeking females only to overthrow the government, eliminate the money system, institute complete automation, and destroy the male sex." — Valerie Solana, SCUM Manifesto (Society for Cutting Up Men.)
"How will the family unit be destroyed? ... the demand alone will throw the whole ideology of the family into question, so that women can begin establishing a community of work with each other and we can fight collectively.  Women will feel freer to leave their husbands and become economically independent, either through a job or welfare."—  Female Liberation , by Roxanne Dunbar.

"I feel that 'man-hating' is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them."  — Robin Morgan, (editor of MS magazine)
“…[I]t is important for us to encourage women to leave their husbands and not to live individually with men... All of history must be re-written in terms of oppression of women. We must go back to ancient female religions like witchcraft" —  The Declaration of Feminism , November 1971.

"God is going to change. We women... will change the world so much that He won't fit anymore." — Naomi Goldenberg,  Changing of the Gods: Feminism and the End of Traditional Religions (Quoted at beginning of From Father God to Mother Earth)
The vast majority of people are clueless when it comes to understanding the malicious forces arrayed against the family and marriage. They simply do not comprehend how hell-bent the enemy is on destroying the family.

Gillis Triplett identifies the gameplan for destruction to successfully eliminate the sacredness of the marriage covenant from the minds of the masses, and make them believe marriage is outdated and blasé (Al Mohler makes many of the same points in his recent book "We Cannot Be Silent"):
  • Inspire hatred against the family unit, manhood and fatherhood
  • Institute no-fault divorce and encourage serial divorces
  • Incite rampant promiscuity, fornication and adultery
  • Make having illegitimate children become a common practice
  • Convince society that a child in the womb is not a human being
  • Provoke women to have abortions without regard to God or their consciences
  • Make true love seem like cheap amusement
  • Stimulate the people to confuse sex with the love
  • Create an environment that encourages unwed single motherhood
  • Inspire men to disrespect, dishonor and abuse women
  • Design laws that motivate women to commit paternity fraud
  • Incite homosexuality, lesbianism, sexual immorality and perversion
  • Influence men to effortlessly abandon children they sire
  • Most importantly, provoke a fierce relentless gender war
Barring national repentance, Milwaukee is only the beginning.

What Keeps Most Of The Populace Ignorant?

As noble an experiment as the American Republic is, I believe that democracy (which assumes most will choose wisely) is doomed to collapse, having within it the seeds of its own destruction. Scripture is crystal clear that most will - in fact -  ultimately choose wrongly [Matt 7:13-14].

At heart - what keeps most of the populace astonishingly ignorant?

No, it's not under-performing public education, it's neither robber barons nor Wall Street, it's not biased media, it's not Hollywood, it's not the internet, it's not racism, it's not corrupt and inept political leadership, and it's not lack of opportunity or money. While all of these may play a small part in keeping the vast majority in ignorance, something far more powerful, sinister and devastating is at work.

The simple truth is that it is a catastrophic hardening of the heart produced by sin that causes ignorance (Eph 4:18) - "They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart."

And it's a dangerously foolish ignorance that ironically declares itself wise (Rom 1:22). There is only one Power that can free us from this inborn, fatal ignorance (Luke 24:25; Prov 2:6). Everything else is futile.

"Christlike character and theological soundness weren’t nearly as important as being articulate and charismatic"

Matt Moore (a former homosexual saved from a life of "reckless drunkenness and wild promiscuity") offers some valuable wisdom here, that was obviously earned at the school of hard knocks. The church would do well to heed his advice entitled 'God May Not Want You To Be A “World-Changer” '...

I was just barely removed from a life drenched in substance abuse and all other kinds of depravities when scores of well-meaning Christians began to inform me that I was “destined for greatness.” I was bombarded left and right with predictions about all the big and marvelous ways in which God was going to use me. They said a guy with my kind of testimony and gifts was sure to follow in the footsteps of spiritual giants like C.S. Lewis. And it wasn’t just me who was receiving these supposed words from the Lord. I was submerged in a Christian culture where anybody with a scandalous story and decent communication skills was labeled a future “world-changer.”

Though it was masked by spiritual language, self-promotional ideology was abundantly present in the Christian circles I ran in. There was more talk about networking and platform-enlarging strategies than there was about Jesus and his gospel.

... I saw ungodly young men thrown into leadership positions for no other reason except they were gifted guys with attractive personalities. Again, no one would admit that—but it was blatantly obvious. Christlike character and theological soundness weren’t nearly as important as being articulate and charismatic. Though I had only been born again for like five minutes, multiple people approached me about becoming a “leader” in their ministries. I was young, semi-articulate, and had a crazy cool story that would get people’s attention—so of course I was qualified (sarcasm)!

I so wish I could travel back in time and tell all the people who espoused this “world-changer” verbiage to zip it! I understand and appreciate the fact that most of them were likely trying to encourage me and rev up my excitement about following Jesus. But all they really did was 1) appeal to my carnal, self-exalting tendencies, and 2) set me up with unbiblical expectations about what it looks like to be mightily used by God.

... God may not want you serving him in the spotlight, but he definitely wants you doing glorious gospel work in your local church, neighborhood, and living room. In the economy of God, being used in “big” or “amazing” ways isn’t measured by how many Twitter followers you have or how many people show up to your bible study. Christians do big and amazing things when they 1) simply do what God has called them to do—even if it seems mundane, and 2) stick to the true substance of Christian ministry: Jesus and his gospel. You may not impact the world for Jesus, but you will certainly be used by God to impact your little world for Jesus. And that has more weight and glory than your mind has the capability to fathom.

Oh, how I wish I had been beaten over the head with this kind of truth in my spiritual infancy! I might have avoided a lot of frustration, distraction, and even discipline from the Lord!

... my less-than-godly motives eclipsed my pure motives. I wanted Matt Moore and his writing to be known by the masses more than I wanted Jesus Christ and his gospel to be known by the masses.

Thankfully, God stepped in with fierce grace and, through a series of painfully humbling events, shattered my self-promotional perspective of Christian ministry and my ministry-infatuated perspective of the Christian life.

... He taught me that the legitimacy of my personal ministry isn’t measured by how wide my influence is but by how faithful I am to love others well by ministering content that is drenched with the grace and truth of the gospel.

Amen. Thank you, Matt for your honesty. More than a few Christians have tragically fallen for the seduction offered Jesus in the wilderness during the temptation.
